NQ Scots - Queensland Champions G4, 2010

About NQ Scots

The NQ Scots Pipe Band was officially launched by Fraser Martin on Saturday 23rd May 2009 at a small gathering of pipe bands in Ayr, North Queensland, Australia.

The North Queensland Scottish Pipe Band (commonly known as NQ Scots) has been set up to address the specific needs of pipe bands located in the North Queensland zone who suffer from being isolated from the rest of the Australian pipe band community. As a result of this isolation, local bands find it increasingly difficult to maintain numbers and to improve their standards to meet a nationally acceptable level.

The band draws its membership from local community bands situated throughout North Queensland in an area north of a line drawn from Rockhampton to the southwest corner bordering South Australia: an area of approximately 1 million square kilometres.

The basic concept behind the project is to form a representative band from North Queensland who’s sole aim is to provide the opportunity and motivation to improve the general standard of piping and drumming through taking part in a professionally run representative competition band.

On 21st August 2009 the NQ Scots band was officially incorporated as North Queensland Scottish Pipe Band Inc.

Interested in joining?

If you are interested in joining this project and you are not a member of a local pipe band, we strongly urge you to make contact with your local pipe band first, join them or support them in any way you can.

You can get involved with this project at any level. Start by taking part in the online discussions or add some information to the map page.

Join your local pipe band

All pipe bands in North Queensland need members - pipers, drummers, volunteers. It's a great activity for young and old, a lot of fun and a musical experience to last you a lifetime.

We have started a list of links to local pipe bands on this site. If you're a member of a pipe band in the North Queensland area and don't see your local band listed here please contact us and we'll pass on your contact information to our site visitors. It doesn't matter if the band doesn't have a website (gasp) - email or phone will do. A few of these bands are missing contact information. Please feel free to update.

In these upwardly mobile times, jobs and education take people far and wide across the country and overseas. It doesn't matter if you only have new members for a few months and then they are reposted elsewhere. The effect of recruiting is universal and reciprocal. When each band recruits we recruit on behalf of everyone in the pipe band movement.
